Cecelia Chapman (San Francisco, California) lives and works in Afife, Portugal. Chapman’s recent works expand on her long-standing interest in visual language, communication, and the limits of perception and consciousness. Parsons School of Design, graphic design.

Chapman produces experimental yet nonfictional, and mythic but documented work in film and multi-media projects, drawing on her lived experiences: the tourist industry; her home state’s noir, transactional, militaristic soul; the technology industry’s commodification of knowledge and dangers; human relationships with nature; space-life; love; and dream. In recent abstract-minimal images 2020-2025, she experiments in developing a contemplative and transformative experience. Current project in process, MauMau Blood Dreamspursues the earliest narratives in myth, folktale, and fairytale. Through cutting and mixing, reversing roles and altering outcomes, the works in MauMau become experiments in creating new stories, through which we might re-image a different world.
